Notes

The most common species are Naematelia aurantia (Schwein.) Burt 1921 and Tremella mesenterica (Schaeff.) Pers., 1801. The two species have a similar appearance, parasitize wood-decaying fungi, and are found on dead wood.

Differentiating them in the absence of the fruit body of their host species is impossible at a macroscopic scale. T. mesenterica is parasitic on Peniophora spp., while N. aurantia is parasitic on Stereum hirsutum (Willd.) Pers., 1800.
