Possible confusion with O. divergens Boreau, 1847, whose main bulb is usually surrounded by many small, leafless bulbils, while that of O. umbellatum is usually surrounded by a few leaved bulbils of variable size.
Possible confusion with O. orthophyllum Ten., 1830, whose main bulb usually does not divide.
