Notes
Possible confusion with P. rhoeas L., 1753, whose seed capsules are less elongated (length/width ratio ≤ 2), while those of P. dubium are more elongated (length/width ratio ≥ 2.5 and < 3.5).
The following infraspecific taxa are accepted:
- P. dubium subsp. austromoravicum (Kubát) Hörandl, 1994;
- P. dubium subsp. dubium L., 1753, P;
- P. dubium subsp. stevenianum (Mikheev) Kubát & Šípošová, 2002.
Hybridizes with P. rhoeas L., 1753 to produce P. × strigosum (Boenn.) Schur, 1877, P (het. syn. P. × hungaricum Borbás, 1900).
