Notes
Possible confusion with C. hederifolium Aiton, 1789 or C. purpurascens Mill., 1768, which blooms in summer or autumn, while C. coum blooms at the end of winter.
Possible confusion with C. repandum Sm., 1806, whose flowers have a long style that protrudes past the corolla, while those of C. coum have a style hidden by the corolla.
The following infraspecific taxa are accepted:
- C. coum subsp. caucasicum (K.Koch) O.Schwarz, 1955;
- C. coum subsp. coum Mill., 1768, I;
- C. coum subsp. elegans (Boiss. & Buhse) Grey-Wilson, 1997.
The individual below was found among rubble, presumably mixed with garden soil containing a bulb.
