Notes
Possible confusion C. purpurascens Mill., 1768, whose flowers have an unswollen corolla, while those of C. hederifolium have a corolla with a swelling at its base.
Possible confusion with C. repandum Sm., 1806, which blooms in spring, and whose flowers have a long style that protrudes past the corolla, while C. hederifolium blooms in summer or autumn, and has flowers with a style hidden by the corolla.
Possible confusion with other cultivated species which sometimes escape and naturalize, such as Cyclamen coum Mill., 1768, or Cyclamen persicum Mill., 1768.
The following infraspecific taxa are accepted:
- C. hederifolium subsp. crassifolium (Hildebr.) Culham, Denney & P.Moore, 2009;
- C. hederifolium subsp. hederifolium Aiton, 1789, P.
C. hederifolium can bloom before or during the development of the leaves.
