Notes
Subspecies with small fruits (⌀ ≤ 35 mm) and thorny spurs. Sometimes considered a distinct species under the name P. pyraster (L.) Burgsd., 1787.
The distinction between the two (sub)species does not appear to be valid, and it is possible to encounter in the same areas both type communis individuals with relatively large pear-shaped fruits, and type pyraster individuals with small, round fruits.
