Notes
Possible confusion with many species of the genus Rubus. The round and glabrous stems with short thorns (≤ 3 mm) and the leaves with always 3 leaflets, the terminal being petiolate, allow for the identification of R. caesius.
The fruits are composed of 10-20 - sometimes fewer - blue-black and pruinose drupelets.
Hybridizes with:
- R. idaeus L., 1753 to produce R. × idaeoides Ruthe, 1834, P;
- R. ulmifolius Schott, 1818 to produce R. × uncinellus P.J.Müll. & Lefèvre, 1859, P.
