Notes
Possible confusion with V. brasiliensis Vell., 1829, whose median cauline leaves have a cuneate base, while those of V. bonariensis have an auriculate base and are amplexicaul.
Possible confusion with V. incompta P.W.Michael, 1995, whose flowers are a dull violet, while those of V. bonariensis are a bright violet.
