Notes

Possible confusion with V. tricolor L., 1753, whose flowers have a lower petal with a large yellow base, or a fully yellow petal, and 2-3 black stripes on the lateral petals, while those of V. arvensis have a lower petal with a short yellow base and 0-2 black stripes on the lateral petals.

The following infraspecific taxa are accepted:

  • V. arvensis subsp. arvensis Murray, 1770, P;
  • V. arvensis subsp. megalantha Nauenb., 2010.
