Possible confusion with V. canina L., 1753, whose flowers have a long yellowish spur, and are not scented.
Possible confusion with V. hirta L., 1753, which does not produce stolons.
Possible confusion with V. odorata L., 1753, whose flowers are usually darker, have a short spur the same color as the petals, and are scented.
Possible confusion with V. riviniana Rchb., 1823, whose flowers have a long white spur, and are not scented.
Hybridizes with V. canina L., 1753 to produce V. × mixta A.Kern., 1868, P (het. syn. V. × borussica (Borbás) W.Becker, 1912).
Named after Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach (1793-1879), a German ornithologist and botanist.
