Notes

Subspecies with a brown-black rachis, whose fronds gradually become narrower, whose terminal segment is very reduced, and whose pinnae are elongated. The pinnae are inserted nearly perpendicularly on the rachis and are contiguous. Tetraploid (2n = 144). Sometimes elevated at species rank under the name A. quadrivalens (D.E.Mey.) Landolt, 2010.
