Notes

Octaploid (2n = 96).

The following infraspecific taxa are accepted:

• M. aquatica var. aquatica L., 1753: hairy leaves, P;
• M. aquatica var. citrata (Ehrh.) Hartm., 1832: glabrous leaves, citrus or basil odor. ¹

Hybridizes with:

• M. arvensis L., 1753 to produce M. × verticillata L., 1759, P;
