Notes
Two varieties were previously accepted:
- P. sulphurea var. sulphurea (Carrière) Rivière & C.Rivière, 1878;
- P. sulphurea var. viridis R. A. Young, 1937, I (hom. syn. P. viridis (R.A.Young) McClure, 1956).
The distinction was solely based on the color of the culms at sheath fall - golden yellow for var. sulphurea, green-yellow for var. viridis - and is no longer considered valid.
