Notes
Possible confusion with other species of the A. trichomanes complex. The gradually narrowing fronds, the reddish-brown rachis, the rounded, obliquely inserted, and more or less evenly spaced pinnae, and the slightly reduced terminal segment allow for the identification of A. trichomanes.
Acidophilous species that grows on siliceous rocks, scree slopes, and old dry-stone walls. Diploid (2n = 72).
The following infraspecific taxa are accepted:
- A. trichomanes subsp. densum (Brack.) W.H.Wagner, 1999;
- A. trichomanes subsp. trichomanes L., 1753, P.
Hybridizes with:
- A. foreziense Le Grand ex Magnier, 1884 to produce A. × guichardii Litard., 1911, P (hom. syn. A. × pagesii nothosubsp. guichardii (Litard.) Viane, Boudrie, Rasbach & K.Rasbach, 2003);
- A. inexpectans (Lovis) Landolt, 2010 to produce A. × melzerianum (S.Jess.) ined., P (hom. syn. A. trichomanes nothosubsp. melzerianum S.Jess., 1995);
- A. quadrivalens (D.E.Mey.) Landolt, 2010 to produce A. × lusaticum D.E.Mey., 1958, P (hom. syn. A. trichomanes nothosubsp. lusaticum (D.E.Mey.) Lawalrée, 1978);
